Mr David Mather
Summary
I am Associate Head of School (Students) for the School of Education, Languages and Linguistics at the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ. I provide strategic and operational leadership across student experience, recruitment and retention. I also lead on Teaching, Learning and Assessment for the School.
Before taking on this leadership role, I was Course Leader for Educational Leadership and Management. I oversaw the MSc provision, including the Senior Leader Degree Apprenticeship. I have also supported Initial Teacher Training across a range of programmes.
My work includes close engagement with the UK military and veteran communities as they transition into higher education. I collaborate with the Service Children’s Progression Alliance and have contributed to national and international work on workplace culture, cultural transmission, EDI and equitable access to education.
My professional background spans both commercial and state-sector education and training. I taught A-Level, BTEC and Access courses for many years, led curriculum development and contributed to governance, strategic planning, compliance and research activity.
I am currently undertaking academic doctoral research. My thesis explores how military service is repositioned within civilian occupations, with a particular focus on teacher education.
